“ | I am not what I am. | ” |
–Iago's most famous quote |
Iago is the main antagonist of William Shakespeare's Othello. He is the ensign and supposed friend of the Moorish general Othello who seeks to make the general believe that his wife Desdemona is cheating on him. His motives - including jealousy, racism, thwarted ambition, and sadism - have been the source of academic debate and analysis for hundreds of years.
