Romeo + Juliet (1996) is an American romantic-drama film adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It is a modernized telling of the play, retaining the original Shakespearean dialogue, but with swords replaced by guns with such brand names as "Sword" and "Dagger." The rival families are presented as hostile competing business empires.
