Rosaline is a character in Romeo and Juliet.

Act 1 Scene 1 After a conversation with Montague and Lady Montague, Benvolio says he will find out what troubles Romeo Montague. What follows is a prolonged conversation between Benvolio and Romeo, who is affected by unrequited love. Romeo does not mention Rosaline by name, but she is the cause of his heartbreak.

Rosaline is first mentioned by name in Act I Scene I, as Romeo Montague reads Capulets guest list for Capulets' servant. She is noted as Capulets' "fair niece." Immediately following the servants exit the Benvolio and Romeo discuss Rosaline.

In Act 2 Scene 1 Mercutio states to Benvolio that he will "conjure" Romeo by Rosalind.

Act 2 Scene 3 Rosaline is a topic of discussion between Romeo and Friar Lawrence.

Act 2 Scene 4 A Street Mercutio comments to Benvolio, in reference to Romeo; "Ah, that same pale hard-hearted wench, that Rosaline.

Torments him so, that he will sure run d.ma" After Romeo enters, Mercutistill speaking to Benvolio o refers to Rosali,nsaying sLaura to his lady was but a kitchen-wench."d.



Afterwards, he ditches her for Juliet Capulet.
